We have seen time and again our political system fail in delivering on its promises. Basic issues apart, even our very existence is not of importance to them. They fail to realise that it is not the renowned 'Spirit of Mumbai', but infact the necessasity of it's people that they must show a brave face and step out to work, the very next morning. And yet, we remain a demoracy, and these are our very own elected representatives who rule this great country.

So what is going wrong here?

And why is our quality of life & infact our lives itself, not as good/important as those of our Western counterparts?

This blog is meant for like minded people like us, who want to come together and bring about a change.
A change in the way people think about politics.
A change in the way systems are run.
A change in the responsibility shown by politicians.

We want answers.
We want time-bound results.
We want accountability.
We want the best standards of living for all our people.

How do we go about this.
Well this is a little platform from where we build our base.

India United as ONE

How many times has Mumbai been attacked by terrorists in the last ten years?
How many Governments have promised to take tough action against the culprits?
How many Politicians have talked about the "Spirit of Mumbai"?

Do you remember what happend after the bomb blasts:
7 days of the incident
1 month of the incident
1 year of the incident

We all know the answers to this question.

Just today, a friend coming in from Churchgate station found no police near the ten metal detectors at the station.

What is our response to this?
Critisism of the Politicians
Critisism of the System
No Laws
No Infrastructure

And honestly isnt the System is too deeply entrenched in corruption for us to do anything?
And even for those that do come out and do something. What is the best thing we can do:
Sloganeering?
Public Marches?
Interviews to Media?
Bharat Maata ki Jai???

What are we achieving? There are a lot of people like us, who want to make a difference, but who dont know how to go about it.

We want to create a platform from which we can let like minded people participate in the system. Be a part of it. Try to bring about change.

Change does not happen in a day.
But if we dont start today, change may never happen.

We are more educated. More competent. Better than most political party members.
So why not come together and do what we talk.

Its time to act now.

Together we can make a difference and change the nation to a better future.

Hi,

I aggree with what you are saying. There should be a Citizens Movement which should have the right to question the govt. I know the oppossion party does question the ruling party but we all see what do these people do in the parliament.(Walkout's, chair throwing and what not).

We as educated youth of the country should have to question the Govt as Citizens, say every quarter or every 6 months, but before we do that all this we need to get together and figure out how to do it. One or 2 cant do this we require a seizable amount of people to support this.

I would appeal like minded people to share their thoughts on this blog and come together for a cause.

I too agree with you, Not only terrorist attacks but other things like Telgi Scam, Commissioner Sharma arrest, from Mumbai to Shanhai dream. Are all the things forgotten with the time. But we need to stop this. We should come ahead and start appraisal of Govt. on time bound basis. Let's ask them questions again and again, till we get foolproof answer for it. Remind them of promises they had made, till those are fulfilled.
I am with you. Thanks.

We all want to bring the change but expecting it from the same policians lot is i think not feasible. Why cant a common men come forward to join politics and bring the change, which is definitely supported by other common men and will be inconsensus with the aam janta. Why cant we form a party and be a part of the loksabha, vidhansabha. I am interested to join politics coz i want to make difference, want to do something for my people, for my country and I cant rely on existing politicians for the same. We have given them enough chance and waited so long but results are still the same. India is a powerful country, full of talented people than why shouldnt we come forward to take our country ahead. ARE THERE NO ONE WHO THINK IN THIS WAY????? IF ANYONE IS INTERESTED IN POLITICS LET ME KNOW.....TOGETHER WE CAN DEFINITELY MAKE THE DIFFERNCE AND WE HAVE TO COME FORWARD FOR SURE....i will await for the people who think like me and want to change the way india govt, system works....IF U WANT PEOPLE 2LIVE BETTER LIFE....U HAVE TO SACRIFICE UR PERSONAL LIFE....AND HAVE TO GET INTO POLITICS AND HAVE TO BECOME A SOCIAL ANIMAL.... IS ANYONE READY TO JOIN ME?????

Hey Trupti,

Well I am one with this idea. The only way to change a system is to be a part of it. But thinking of going to the Lok Sabha right now is just not on.

I know it maybe possible to get a seat and win it as an independent. But then what? We have so many independents coming in, but they are so easily singled out by the big parties, that their being there is just a waste. And then at times of coalition politics, they are just bought out.

To make a concrete change we need to start at the grass roots. Without a base we would just be building castles in the air.

For starters, lets try taking a look at the constituencies in Mumbai. Mumbai has so many problems, from electricity, to roads, to dust & pollution, to corruption. Maybe we can target the BMC elections.

But for this we need to do a SWOT Analysis:
How many constituencies there are? What is their voter profile?
What are their problems?
What we can propose to realistically do to solve these?
Who are our oponents?
What is the procedure for putting up nominations?
Do we have enough members to contest or to create a realistic majority, with which we can bring about change?
How does the BMC actually work?
What are their procedures & how do we change these?
etc...

These are just a few questions that came to my mind. I am sure if we are to take on such a task there will be many more needing answers.

For now, I would say we need to come up with more ideas on the possible problems in this plan & the possible solutions available to us. Once these have come forward, we should meet up & decide on a step by step plan on how to approach the task, as well as allocating ppl with responsibilities to get us answers to these questions.

Once these are framed, then we can get a better picture of how we can actually go about making this dream into reality.

few quick suggestions:
1) all tainted politicians should be removed from holding political posts with immediate effect. Henceforth, anybody who's having criminal/fraudulence cases registered in their names even if they have not been proven at the court of law, or have criminal backgrounds should not be permitted from contesting elections. Refuse voting for them !

2) A minimum educational qualification from a well established institution should be made mandatory for person contesting elections

3)security protection to the politicians and VIPs should be provided based on their risk assessment. Risk assessment should be done from private/foreign security agencies

4)there should not be multiple entrances in public institutions such as hospitals, universities etc. if at all needed well armed securities should be provided may be privatisation of the security system with mandatory minimum security training and qualifications. Effective scanners and detecting machineries and weapons should bne provided at all entrances.

well, will write back again

Interesting ideas and thoughts & an amazing effort on the blog. But nobody is talking about "self change". It is so easy to point fingers at others, has anyone done an introspection? I did for myself and found few thing hurting & cause for this system to fail.
1) Am i disciplined?
2) Have i ever bribed anyone for anything?
3) What have i done to make myself & others proud?
4) How many things do i remember that has happened in the past to the people of India with respect to terrorist attacks & other tragedies?
5) Have i ever kept a track on J&K to figure out what has happened there?
6) Have i ever followed traffic rules?
7) How many times have i traveled without ticket?
8) Have i ever taken the law & order for granted?

There are so many questions one need to answer for self, am not trying to be pessimist but as its said charity starts at home first. So was trying to think if i was a cause for the attacks so far.

I feel this group should start making changes to the current system by educating people about what they are doing. If we discipline our self, system will change accordingly, for India "Discipline" is the key word. I think system can be changed.

I feel that this passion for Mumbai was always there in the people. But it was massively ignited after the 26/11 attacks and after understanding the facts that the politicians hardly care for the safety of the people. What they wore more is for their own safety and money.

There are so many things that are needed in this city. It will take some time but if we all take a collective effort and interest, it will have positive results. Things can be changed and improved 1 after the other

But, first i feel a few things are needed to strenghten the group. I have a few suggestions:
1) We have 27 members. Let us decide 1 particular date where we can meet for once.
2)Have people to know of people who can participate and how much.
3) We can know who can provide how much time and in which way to this group

If we can get basics right, things would be smoother.

Action Plan

I agree with Trupti in a certain way that we need to be a part of it in order to know it and change it

But here are a few suggestions that come to our mind.

As i said in my earlier post, we need to meet once and atleast know each other. You never know who all join the group and what they are upto.

A few suggestions:

1) Make ID Cards for each member. This can be used to talk to people randomly and collect information. Once we show an I-Card, pople would not hesist in talking to us.

2) Collect data randomly and lets put forward points on the basis of whats needed most.

3) Having I-Cards for members and registering "India United as ONE" would help us get appointments with government officials. There is no other way we can put forward our questions or get answers. They will never meet random people.

4) Instead of asking them questions directly, collect info from newspapers, online, etc and hit them back with whatever they say. hey need to know that people are reading whatever they say ro write.

These are a few basic things that come to my mind first.
I may have gone overboard with a few suggestions. They may be not possible or too complicated.
But, all i have done is provided my thoughts

I am not sure where this could lead to but guys this sure looks like a good beginning…. Its up to us people to make this work now..read on..fyi

Maharashtra's new Chief Minister Ashok Chavan would be accessible to public online to hear their grievances. Chavan today created an e-mail ID to enable people reach him with their complaints, an official from the CM office said. Anyone can send their grievances, problems, queries about the state issues directly to the Chief Minister on ashokchavanmind@rediffmail.com, the official said.
This is the easy way to communicate and reach to masses across the state, the official said, adding, the Chief Minister would also reply to them.

Dear Friends,

I think we have to meet once with a specified agenda so that we can discuss various things usefully.

As far as our new chief minister and dy.Chief minister is concern they have not excelled anything specifically in their previous assignment. Once again the respective political party has filled the vaccum. So its not advisable to once again trust these part time rulers to expect any big change in the quality of life of the citizens.

HEYY GUYSS... WHAT HAPPND U GUYS SLEEPING KYAA..I THINK NO 1 IA INTRSTED... IN THIS MATTER..

Dave said...

No my dear friend Pritesh. No one is sleeping.....as communicated earlier by Akshay, as a group we have joined a bigger group as Alert Indians and we are registered with an even more bigger group which is called as Group of Groups(GOG).

Few us are actively involved in the political intervention sub group of GOG and have been attending quite a few meetings about Fielding Citizens Candidate for the forth comming parliamentary elections and were working for the campaign for the same.

I had invited few our group members for the meeting but havent seeen anyone responding. I will be more than happy to invite anyone intrested for our future meetings.

Another Update is :
Today i attended the Citizens Vigilance Programme Organised by Satahark Nagrik Sangthan(SNS). It was an enligtening workshop which tell's you how the Government and the BMC works, who is responsible for what etc. They are a group of people who are empowering normal people like us on how to use RTI and educate us so that we know where and how to file an RTI application. I would recommend this workshop for everyone who as an individual wants to make a difference.

Please let me know if anyone is intrested and i will let you know of their Next workshop for anyone to attend.

There are few of us who are really working on to bring a change but it is only that there are a lot of update's to catch up with on the blog and it is also that we havent seen much happeneing on the blog except a few of us really intrested.
