We have seen time and again our political system fail in delivering on its promises. Basic issues apart, even our very existence is not of importance to them. They fail to realise that it is not the renowned 'Spirit of Mumbai', but infact the necessasity of it's people that they must show a brave face and step out to work, the very next morning. And yet, we remain a demoracy, and these are our very own elected representatives who rule this great country.

So what is going wrong here?

And why is our quality of life & infact our lives itself, not as good/important as those of our Western counterparts?

This blog is meant for like minded people like us, who want to come together and bring about a change.
A change in the way people think about politics.
A change in the way systems are run.
A change in the responsibility shown by politicians.

We want answers.
We want time-bound results.
We want accountability.
We want the best standards of living for all our people.

How do we go about this.
Well this is a little platform from where we build our base.

We are meeting tomorrow at Lallubai Park which is 10 mins walk from Andheri Railway Station west at 6.30 PM.

Once you get down on Andheri station west walk parallel to the station towards vileparle. You should be able to find it easily as it is a very famous park in the vicinity.

Below is the way on Google Maps take a look once if you want.Zoom in a lil bit.

Hey,
Apologies that I couldn't join for the meeting, the reason being that I don't live in Mumbai.

Anyways, how did it go? Please share the meeting minutes with the rest of us too who couldn't make for it.

The First Meeting: A Brief.

Attendents: Trupti, Bhavesh, Dhaval, Nilay, Viraj, Apurv, Jatin, Akshay, Sumana

Firstly thank you all for taking the time out and coming for the meeting.
It was an absolute pleasure meeting all of you.

The meeting was held at Lallubhai Park, Andheri-W.

The objective was to meet up & discuss the various thoughts and ideas we all have been coming out with. Gauge their viability and try and convert them actionable plans.

The following is the outcome of that meet:

1. The next meeting is scheduled on Saturday the 20th of December, at the same venue.

2. On doing a little introspection we found that it was very much necessary to educate ourselves first before taking on any major tasks. Since none of us (I am only assuming), are completely aware of the bureaucracy, the procedures, the rules & laws, the operational methods of the government, it was thought that to take on or even question any such system we firstly need to get our act together.

It was thus decided that we take up the task of understanding in detail our basic FUNDAMENTAL RIGHTS as guaranteed by the constitution.

How do we go about this:
- Dhaval will be putting up on the blog, the list of our basic fundamental rights.
- From then on any person can take any one right (or more if you have the time) and study it in detail.
- Please mention on the blog, the right that you propose to take up, so that others can take alternate ones. (If in case there are no rights left, do take on repeats, as points covered by one person may not be covered by the other).
- Try and look up its history or related case studies as well, as this will give us a practical idea about how the judicial system perceives these rights.
- For the next meeting each one of us will brief the rest about one fundamental right, so that we are all

3. Sumana came up with the suggestion that we should try and meet up with Citizens Groups led by prominent personalitities like Julio Ribeiro etc.., through which we can convey our thoughts and ideas to the government.
However to do this we first need to come up with a common agenda of the points that we would want the government.

The task at hand now will be to chalk out an agenda in the first place.
I would request everyone to come up with their points/suggestions addressed to the government, which we can put forth through these groups.
Please try and come up with the same by this week, so that we can take them up for the next meeting.

4. Although it is accepted that the long term pros of a political unit have many advantages and it can be kick started at the municipal levels, for now we are not jumping into anything like this.

The main reason pointed out by many people, for this plan being ineffective was that for such an activity we would need large numbers supporting us. These large numbers can only be possible if we can gain public confidence, by delivering results.

Since the basic idea is to deliver the best to the public and not to be politicians, the feasibility of this plan will depend on what we can actually deliver when in power (even if we can ride on the emotional wave). However since we are presently quiet unaware of the system itself, the first thing needed will be to brush up our own knowledge.

5. We also resolved that from this point on we will stand with each other, on any moral ground when it came to taking on the bureaucracy or any other government system. We will act as one united entity.

The bottom line for this being that we are all fighting for the same cause, and the enemy here is a corrupt political system. There maybe times when we could be cornered singly by political motives. We have to avoid this at all costs, and all our actions must be united as a single group.

A simple example would be, if you have to take on your local babu for a job not done, don’t fight him alone, take us all along as a group to his office. We have to act together.

6. The group was also briefed about the meeting, that Me, Jatin & Apurv had attended last Saturday, in which about 5-6 groups from Mumbai were present.

A brief of the meeting:
The objective of the meeting was to get all the various scattered groups in Mumbai to come together to form one central group.
In that meeting two paths of action were chosen :
1. Top Attack: Take one the government by hitting it from the top. This would be by staging rallies, protests, meetings, etc.. We will join hands with various personalities, NGOs etc.. and form citizens pressure groups which would constantly question the government & keep a tab on its activities.
2. Bottom Attack: The second path was to take on the system from the bottom up. This would be by trying to build up a grass roots movement, by going to the people and explaining to them on what is happening, getting their opinions and by starting a political outfit which would have mass support.

Based on this it was decided that we will extended our full support & cooperation to the activities taken to form one central group. Since the fight is for the same cause, we have to stand united and present one unified front.
We will still continue with our activities, however we will merge fronts, so that the government is met with one united front.

7. It was also decided that we will not extend any support to any main stream political party/ outfit. That said, we are not saying that we will not vote. We have heard of various people’s parties coming to the fore, however we will only support parties, after doing a complete analysis of the same.

Jatin and Trupti both have references of websites, which give information on electoral procedures as well as information about electoral candidates and respective parties. They will be shortly putting up the names of the same for our reference.

We can discuss the various options present during our next meeting.

This is the basic brief of the meeting. I have elaborated a bit, so as to keep things clear between all of us. Please do fill up the blanks if you feel I have missed out on anything.

Guys first of all thanks to all attendees of the meeting for being a part of this protest n keeping the spirit alive n it was nice to meet you all, and request others to try to make it on this saturday. Two more points which we need to action on are :

=> Jatin will be creating a google docs or a database wherein name, contact nos and email IDs of all the participants will be available. So in case of any protests, meetings etc. we can be in touch easily n can be present at the venue.

=> We have also discussed that we will get in touch with other groups n should join hands with them. We all have same objective to fight against the corrupt system n to change the same, then it is better that all the groups should unite n fight with the force of 100-200 of us rather than fighting in the group of 10- 10 each. Hence, please get in touch with the concerned person of other group, convey the massage n find out the ways to unite n act as one. Going forward the database created will result in a Group ID wherein we all can be informed by sending one mail to that particular group ID. Thats all from my side on adding the minutes of the meeting held on 12th Dec.

I will find out the info on entering into politics, elections etc, n will provide with the website addresses, so that we all can refer the same n discuss in our next meeting. I know many of you do not agree to get into politics, but tell me one thing how many times n how much you will keep protesting on the streets, without the power n position no one will even bothered to look at us. Protesting will be a short term solution for a particular problem n for the long term impact n change we have to be part of the system,to gain the right power n position which will allow us to question the govt, politicians n it will become a mandate for them to answer us.Being a common man, we can stand for common man n make a better, safe life for each of us. It is definitely a long term thing, but not the impossible or a hypothetical solution. Before that we have to gather info, have to join hands with other groups to strengthen the power n have to act in such a manner that people starts noticing n believing us. As I have seen the agitation of the youngsters of Mumbai, I am sure some of us will dont mind working 24*7 for making this dream a success n to bring the difference n to set an historical example. I am definitely on for this......

Coming together is a beginning. Keeping together is progress. Working together is success....
